Tech Talk

Technical Questions Mosquitotech Mosquito control

Q: Are your technicians licensed?
Yes, all of our technicians must undergo pesticide training and testing administered by the State of Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Agency.

Q: How long does it take to apply a treatment?
A typical treatment will average about thirty minutes. Larger yards may take longer to treat.

Q: What are the products your technician is spraying?
Our All-Natural Green product is a mixture of a very strong liquid garlic made from very potent garlic cloves and other natural oils. The garlic is a very powerful variety which is much more potent than the garlic found in grocery stores.  The synthetic products we use are forms of pyrethrums called pyrtethroids. Pyrethrums are insecticides that are derived from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers. Pyrethroids are used in numerous commercial products that consumers use to control insects. Products such as household insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos applied directly to the scalp contain pyrtehroids. We ensure that all the products we use are evaluated and registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Q: How long before I can go in the yard after you have sprayed?
After one of our treatments, we would like you stay out of the treated area for thirty minutes to ensure that the product has dried.

Q:  Can my children and I be outside during treatment? What about our pets?
You should keep your family and pets away while our technicians are applying the application. The products we spray are formulated to adhere to the leaves of bushes and trees that we treat.  Allow the spray to dry before letting your children or pets around the treated areas. Our products generally dry in about 30 minutes after spraying and of course it’s dependent on weather conditions.  After that feel free to enjoy!

Q: How will I know when the technician has sprayed?
Our technician will leave a small sign for review upon completion of your treatment. Information on this sign will include your date and time of service, as well as any comments and helpful hints the technician may have to help you keep your yard as uninviting as possible for mosquitoes, ticks and other pests.

Q:  Will the treatment affect my fish pond or swimming pool?
Our technicians are trained to apply the chemical in ways that will avoid fish ponds. While an over-spray will have no effect on pool water, our technicians are trained to not allow the chemical to come in contact with the water.

Q:  Do I need to schedule our service each month?
Once your seasonal contract or event spray is booked we’ll come out and service your property. We will notify, preferably by email, one to two days before the scheduled treatment.  No need for you to call or do anything. We will show up according to the schedule and you will see our small sign indicated we treated your property.

Q: How effective is the treatment?
There is no treatment can offer 100% protection from every mosquito and tick, however, our All-Natural Green organic product is approximately 80% effective in eradicating ticks and mosquitoes while our standard treatment is between 90-95% effective.
